MIDNIGHT MOVIE

by Eve Leigh

Banner of the world premiere at the Royal Court Theatre, London.

A lonely voice sleepless in front of the Internet, at night. New tab – a man in the bathtub. New tab – a young woman inside a watertank. New tab – a girl on the tracks.

Eve Leigh’s dream – or nightmare – about the solitude of pain, about digital bodies as (questionable) freedom from one’s own limited body, about handicaps, accessibility, force and personal freedom, premiered at the Royal Court Theatre in London in November/December 2019.

Commissioned by Rowohl Theater Verlag, Bochert Translations translates this fascinating text by the British-American playwright into German.

Playwright Carlos Murillo’s Website

Carlos+Murillo

A few years ago, I translated two plays of US playwright Carlos Murillo. Both DARK PLAY OR STORIES FOR BOYS and HUMAN INTEREST STORY (OR THE GORY DETAILS AND ALL) were produced by Katharina Kreuzhage and premiered at Theater Aalen – and never again since. Both of those wonderful texts would very much be worth to see new German language productions. They may be obtained from S. Fischer Verlag Theater & Medien.

Carlos Murillo now has a website of his own where he reports about his activities as a teacher, playwright, and director. He included, among others, links to our exploration of the relationship between playwright, text, and director in US theatre, which had been published on HowlRound.com as well as on HOTreview.org.
